The Message to the Loveless Church

From Revelation 2vs1-7 (NIVUK) ‘To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands. I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: you have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. But you have this in your favour: you hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

'Why Lord do you stand far off?' Psalm 10

Jess brings us the second of our series in Psalms: Psalm 10 (NIVUK) 1 Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? 2 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises. 3 He boasts about the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord. 4 In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. 5 His ways are always prosperous; your laws are rejected by him; he sneers at all his enemies. 6 He says to himself, ‘Nothing will ever shake me.’ He swears, ‘No one will ever do me harm.’ 7 His mouth is full of lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue. 8 He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent. His eyes watch in secret for his victims; 9 like a lion in cover he lies in wait. He lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net. 10 His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength. 11 He says to himself, ‘God will never notice; he covers his face and never sees.’ 12 Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless. 13 Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, ‘He won’t call me to account’? 14 But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. 15 Break the arm of the wicked man; call the evildoer to account for his wickedness that would not otherwise be found out. 16 The Lord is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. 17 You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, 18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror.

Bible School Week 1- Setting the Scene

"All Scripture is God-breathed," 2 Timothy 3v16 (NIV); "No prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit." 2 Peter 1v20-21 (NKJV) Revd Mike sets the scene for this year's Bible school: The Bible is God's blueprint and grand unfolding plan. Scripture is a unity- 'fitly framed together'. The Bible is the beginning and the end of all things. The Bible needs to be believed by faith although the Bible is not unscientific - every new discovery underlines its truth. The Bible was written by holy men of God moved by the Holy Spirit. When discussing the Bible it is important to declare the full counsel of God. We need to do this, even if we find some parts unpalatable. Over the next few weeks Mike will be discussing the good and the bad, the failures of people in the Bible but showing that the Bible is ultimately a positive book. 13/9/21

Bible School Week 2- God's Five Part Blueprint

Begins at 7:00 Good evening & welcome to Bible school with Revd Dr Mike Smith Basic Outline The Bible is a blueprint for God's Kingdom. It is fully and completely inspired in every word. There are five main 'pages' in the blueprint & everything points to and exalts Jesus: 1. Creation: God sets the stage/ lays the foundations. The 'crown' of this is the creation of man and woman. 2. The Fall & rebellion against God: inevitable but still part of the plan. 3. The Promise: the 'Seed of the Woman' will crush the serpent's head. 4. The Redemption: the prophesied seed of the woman: Jesus dies on the Cross & is resurrected. 5. The Fulfilment/ outworking of the Promise: Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords. We shall reign with Him. The serpent (Satan) will finally be defeated forever & we shall live as God intended from the start. (Revelation 22)
